NELLIE OLSON

My partner Jacki & I had recently helped our 16 year old Chow-Chow Abe into the great beyond and were still suffering that loss when we pulled into the parking lot at Petsmart to pick up treats for our 3 other dogs. We looked over at the rescue puppies out in front of the store and saw the sweetest, saddest eyes staring straight at us. "Uh-Oh", we thought. We went over to say hello to Trixie who was calmly sitting with her paws crossed in her crate. She gave us some little kisses and when we heard about her damaged leg we knew Ms. Trix would be finding a new home. One of our other rescues, Boots Malloy, is a 3 legged chihuahua so we knew Trixie with her little limp would be in good company.
When she came into her new home we fitted her with a name more befitting her new life. Her completely deceptive moments of composure are usual disrupted by a little twinkle of mischief in her eye and so "Nellie Olsen" became her adopted name...and boy is she living up to it!!
Nellie Olsen and Connor, our two year akita/keeshond/mini schnauzer--who came to us very abused, have become inseparable pals. They like to destroy toys (well mostly toys) together, chase squirrels, wrestle and spend about a half our each night licking each others faces. Boots and Nellie Olsen have become best frenemies. Boots goes ballistic on Nellie every morning to keep Nellie from holding her down with a paw and stealing her treats and Nellie just loves it. Where Boots and Nellie unite is in their tag team efforts to chase our two cats--who are slowly (but not happily) adjusting to this new sport. Also in the mix is our 11 year old golden/border collie mix who now has Nellie to help him beg for treats and thinks Nellie is awfully fun except when she comes skidding into him while he's taking a nap!
Nellie's leg is doing just great. She has become very strong and hardly ever picks it up anymore. She's a fantastic jumper, especially when you walk in the door! The way she and Conner tear around you'd never know she had any issues.
We couldn't be happier to have Nellie in our lives. She is so energetic, friendly and loving and just an all around goof ball. Thank you so much Noah's Ark for giving Nellie a chance for a great life! Every animal is special and with enough time and effort there is a home out there for each and every one!
